Hudson Taylor sailed to Shanghai at the age of 21, and over the next 50 years, he traveled extensively throughout China sharing the Christian gospel, distributing Bibles, establishing mission stations and offering medical assistance to all.

Despite enduring persecution, political unrest, and heart-breaking personal tragedy and loss, he founded the China Inland Mission, and paved the way for many more missionaries to follow him to serve the Chinese people. Ruth Broomhall is the great great niece of James Hudson Taylor. Other published works by her include co-authored books on John Bunyan and The Pilgrim's Progress. She lives and works in Bedford, UK.
