Originally delivered as a series of Cunningham Lectures at New College, Edinburgh, Walker covers topics dealt with at length by Scottish Theologians, including predestination, the nature and extent of the atonement, the nature of the church, and the church-state relations.

Walker confines himself to dealing with theologians he considered to be most helpful, that is, those in the evangelical Presbyterian tradition of Scotland.

About the Author

James Walker (1821–1891) was a minister of the Free Church of Scotland and a well-regarded church historian. He served as the minister of Carnwath Free Church, about thirty miles from Edinburgh, from September 1843 until his retirement due to ill health in 1876.
