"Read this book prayerfully, thoughtfully, and believingly, by yourself or with your family. In doing so, you will be blessed. How? The Biblical truths of the Larger Catechism, illuminated by the author's reflections, will guide you to the Lord and His service. As 1 John 5:20-21 says, "And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. Little Children, keep yourselves from idols."   Pastor Terreth J. Klaver

The Westminster Standards are monuments to biblical orthodoxy. Concisely and precisely they address the fundamental truths of reformation theology, indeed of the Christian faith. They are resources for study, providing insight into doctrine and guidance into practice. In my own writing, I often refer to the Confession or one of the Catechisms in support or explanation of some point. They are remarkable reference sources.  The Larger Catechism, unlike the Shorter Catechism, does not lend itself easily to memorization. It leaves no stone unturned as it unpacks the issue in question. Case VanKempen's approach to the Large Catechism is different. Rather than simply using the Catechism as a reference work, he uses it as catalyst for devotional reflection. As you read this Volume, you will follow his thoughts generated by his meditation on the words of the Catechism but never apart from ultimate standard for faith, the Bible itself.    Dr. Michael Barrett
